Plant Materials Center Storage Building – Design Build

Client

State of Alaska - Department of Transportation and Public Facilities

Location

Palmer, AK

Scope

This project involved the design and construction of a new storage facility measuring 100 feet by 60 feet, specifically intended for the seasonal storage, during the winter months from October through April, of small agricultural equipment weighing less than 10,000 pounds. The building was constructed using conventional wood framing techniques, with roof trusses positioned on bearing walls to provide structural support.

An additional feature of the building is a 24-foot “lean-to” extension, which includes rafters, beams, and columns supported by Sonotubes, providing extra covered storage space. This extension is designed to facilitate easy access and efficient storage of equipment. Overall, the construction prioritized durability and functionality to meet seasonal storage needs while adhering to standard building practices for agricultural facilities.
